We consider that key to success is our commitment to provide free, personalized and comprehensive services to students who are interested in applying to undergraduate or graduate programs at our partner universities in the UK. We  are able to offer this bespoke free service due to the fact that our funding is provided by British universities that have appointed Across the Pond to represent them in the US. Each student will be offered the best suited choices in terms of programs, universities and geographical locations in the UK.

Our focus on individual attention and the unique approach to student recruitment are inspired by the personal and professional experience of the Across the Pond founders as international students in the UK and through their combined expertise in study, research and career mentoring. Nevertheless, our advisors’ experience, knowledge and dedication are essential to our success and it is due to these qualities and we continue to help overseas students achieve their objectives.  

John C. Borhaug (Managing Director) is Norwegian and earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism in Britain. He also holds an American MS in Journalism and an MA in Political Science. After filling a variety of communications and research positions with universities and media organizations in the US, Norway, Bosnia and the UK, John set up Across the Pond with Hannah Liscombe.
Hannah Liscombe (Managing Director) is from the UK and specialises in student development and career counselling both in the UK and the US. She holds a BA degree in American Studies from the University of Wales, Swansea and an American MA in Political Science from Ohio University. Hannah set up Across the Pond with John Borhaug.
Lauren Spalding (Americas Manager) has been an advisor for North American students for the past 5 years and is one of the longest standing members of Across the Pond. Lauren grew up in California and Oregon and earned her BA in American Studies from Scripps College in Claremont, California. She holds an MA in Linguistics from University College London in the UK, where she currently resides. Lauren’s excellent approach stems from her strong background in international education as she has studied abroad on 3 separate occasions.
Ashley Chew (Student Advisor) was awarded the BA in English at Ohio University in 2005 and subsequently travelled to the UK to pursue the MA in Literature from the University of Essex in Colchester, England in 2009. Ashley considers her experience abroad at the University of Essex to be the most rewarding year of her life so far. She is thrilled to be one of the UK study specialists advising overseas students preparing to study in Britain.
Jackie Christopher (Student Advisor) is from Pennsylvania and has recently been awarded a MA in Education: Leadership and Management at Roehampton University in Richmond, London. Prior to this achievement, she studied for three years at Aberystwyth University in Wales where she earned a BA in Education and Fine Art. Whilst at Roehampton University, she worked as an International Student Advisor, sharing her experiences as a fellow international student.
Mara DiTullio (Student Advisor) is originally from Pennsylvania and has received a BA in Anthropology & Archaeology and History from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. She studied abroad in London for her undergraduate degree and has recently earned an MA in Museum and Artefact Studies from Durham University in the UK. Adapting to the British educational system has been both academically challenging and personally rewarding and now finds great satisfaction in guiding other students who wish to apply to top universities in Britain.
James Meakim (Student Advisor) is based in California, and has recently been awarded the MA in English Renaissance Literature from the University of York, UK. Prior to this, he received a BA in British and American Literature from California State University – East Bay, and spent a term at Cambridge University, where he studied History. He feels that his experiences of travelling and studying in England have been invaluable, and is excited to share his invaluable experience of travelling and studying in England  with international students, to guide and prepare them to study at the best universities in Britain.
Leah Rogers (Student Advisor) is from New York City, and holds a BA in American Studies at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. A former Across the Pond applicant, Leah aimed for excellence in the cultural sector pursuing a MA in Museum and Gallery Studies at Kingston University in London. Leah also has a background in college admissions and student advising. Her college admissions background is a bonus for being an excellent student advisor for applicants to universities in England, Wales and Scotland.
